Aims & Scopes

EASOM MISSION, VISION & TARGETS

Mission
The European Association of Schools of Occupational Medicine (EASOM) exists to promote the highest standards of education and training in occupational medicine in Europe. This will be achieved through the exchange of knowledge, skills and experience of teaching and training between member schools.

Vision
EASOM celebrated it's 10 th anniversary in 2003. During the first decade the name of EASOM has become established at a European and international level and EASOM has attracted a sizeable membership. The annual EASOM Summer School has become established in the academic calendar. During the next five years the development of EASOM will focus on the following areas:
  • External membership to include representation from all European Union countries.
  • Promote awareness and recognition of EASOM within member states.
  • Provision of added value to member schools via access to European academic occupational medicine networks, the development of European teaching experiences and the development of a Quality Assurance approach to the provision of specialist training and courses for continuing professional development.

Targets

  • At least one member school from every country in the EU by 2007.
  • Creation of new website containing information about EASOM and advantages of membership by end of 2005.
  • Publication of an article about EASOM in a relevant national journal/newsletter in each country of the EU by the end of 2006.
  • 20% membership of EASOM, by school, for countries with an existing member school by the end of 2007.
  • Development of one new multinational teaching and/or assessment project per year using the EASOM network.
  • Development of a pan-European teaching module in occupational medicine by 2007.
  • Incorporation of student exchanges between EU countries or visits into national training curricula by 2007.
  • Establishment of a multinational training programme for continuing professional development by 2006.
  • Development of a quality assurance system for education and training that is endorsed and adopted by member schools by 2007.
